HairOnFire
I figured I'd start a thread tracking the prospects the Bengals have been linked to at the combines. Many of the 14 that follow have been mentioned in other threads, but as you can see I did find a few more. For the record, I limited the list to prospects the Bengals were said to have talked to or officially interviewed. Prospects mentioned by beat writers as potential picks didn't qualify, so I've left off Ko Simpson and a few others. Feel free to add him and any others you can find if you stumble over links that mention formal interviews. HairOnFire
One more. This morning while getting caught up on the combine coverage from the last couple of days I heard Mike Mayoch mention the Bengals had a formal interview with Broderick Bunkley. HairOnFire
http://www.nextlevelscoutinginc.com/index....&id=34&Itemid=0 Wretched, I couldn't get the link to work so I've got to ask the obvious question. Is that a list of the Bengals combine interviews? Sheesh, there are 65 players listed there, and it doesn't include a couple named by other sources. kingwilly
Assuming this is their interview list, a couple of rhetorical questions and observations....1. Why did they waste any time talking to a couple of placekickers?2. I like that they are talking to OL's as depth/injuries could have been a real problem last year...we lucked out.3. They have the multi-positional QB's on the list4. They have some early and late WR's in there...5. If they are looking for depth at RB, then they could do alot worse than any of the guys they talked to.6. Only 4 TE's got interviewed...must be waiting till some pro days to catch Pope and Byrd.7. Some mid-round DE's there, but the Purdue guy looked very good doing the drills.8. The DT's are the heavies...me happy!9. Fo the LB's there are some gems...Alston tore up the drills, as did Anderson. 10. The DB's are all hitters...not the flashy, speedy guys..need to verify jason Allens hip..and then draft him asap... kingwilly
My bad...Edwards...he looked sharp...what is the story with this fued with Tiller??? is it a real issue or just your standard "I've got some growing up to do" issue? WretchedOne
It's not a combine interview list. It's a "pre-combine" interest list. It's players that have been seen talking the Bengals during Shrine and Senior bowls. Players they've been seen with in hotel lobbies, etc...
HairOnFire
It's not a combine interview list. It's a "pre-combine" interest list. It's players that have been seen talking the Bengals during Shrine and Senior bowls. Players they've been seen with in hotel lobbies, etc... Fair enough. It's pretty interesting and certainly worthwhile stuff, but not quite what I was hoping to put together. I was hoping to put together from various sources a list of players who were formally interviewed. That's why your list threw me...as it didn't include DE Ray Edwards. But again, the "interest list" is a pretty good find, and should come in handy when putting together a short list for multiple rounds. schweinhart
Gerris Wilkinson keeps popping up -- 1st the Senior Bowl and now a combine interview. He might actually be able to swing weakside with a little more a$$ to him at the point of attack than some of the undersized WSLB the Bengals have approached like Jon Alston, Travis Williams, and Greg Blue. WretchedOne
In the link I provided, they said to not take anything as set-in-stone as a lot of NFL teams and scouts will interview certian players, about certian other players.Like us talking to Nick Mangold, I can't believe we truly have an interest in his sercives, so why are we talking to him?To find out about Gabe Watson. Mangold played him for 3 years and no better way to find out how a guy plays than to ask the guy he played against how he performed.
Kazkal
That or mybe mangold is too much to pass up so they plan moving wilkerson and fuzzy head too guards

So he decided well hell ill just go pro then. He has all the tallent in the world, and ideal size, its just a question of whether you can get him going. it would be cool to have him as a bengal though, he is a cincinnati boy, coming from withrow i think... HairOnFire
One thing seems certain. The Bengals are leaving no stone unturned in regards to the DT position. Decide for yourself whether that makes it more likely that they draft one early or late. As for the wideout mentioned, he's totally off my radar screen, but I haven't watched the combine coverage of the wideouts yet. Sadly, I've fallen way behind in my manadatory TV viewing. schweinhart
All their interest in DTs -- particularily those DTs listed -- makes me think they're pushing fairly hard for a Day 1 DT.Personally, I'd rather see them wait til the 5th and see who's left among Johnny Jolly, LeKevin Smith and Steve Fifita. IMO the Bengals need a big fatty who'll hold the gap at LDT vs. the run, get some bullrush to press the QB and split time with Shaun Smith. Thornton is under contract through 2008 and B-Rob through 2007 and those 2 ought to be able to hold down RDT if the Bengals decide to move B-Rob over. IMO none of the DTs listed would be an immediate upgrade over either of those 2, except for maybe McCargo if he can quickly translate his knack for backfield penetration to the next level.Jeff Webb looked like primarily a possession receiver who had good speed off quick slants in game action but not a major vertical threat. He did clock the 4.40 so speed is there. He had shoulder surgery before last season but came back and produced. Just interesting that the Bengals are looking at WR, even though they'd probably not move on a receiver like Webb before the 4th IMO if at all now with Henry looking like he may avoid the worst he could've got. The_Next_Big_Thing
I kind of like Webb. He should be there on day two, and that's a good point for us to pick a wide out. If we do wait, we can buff our De caff uh I mean De Fence.... on day one.
