I noticed that there were three mocks that had us getting Bunkley. How in the world is he going to fall that far to us?

Coming into the home stretch, the net's mock drafters continue to become increasingly divided in their selection for the Bengals at 24. While Leonard Pope is solidly in the lead this week, votes continue to pile up behind DB choices.

I like to see Cromartie moving up the board some. I think he, Kiwi, or Whitner are all more likely candidates at our pick at 24... Despite our obvious hole at the TE position, I'm losing faith in the possibility that we'll go after Pope or Lewis in the first. Whether or not that is a good thing is up for debate.

I hope everybody else is right - I think we can get Lewis, Fasano, or Byrd in the 2nd, or Klop, Day, or a cast-off basketball player after the 2nd round, and they'll all be better than "Lurch".

i agree, no Pope (though my zhena may disagree since she's catholic). Other mocks that insist that we're taking a TE first obviously have not been paying attention to our offense the last three years, and also ignore our 25th or so - ranked defense. Now that i've said that out loud, watch the Bengals take a TE .

I personally would love to see Cromartie or Bunkley. Kiper actually has Bunkley going 8th to Oakland or Buffalo ( forget which) is picking then.

What the Big Board has been saying over the past couple weeks is that a plurality of mockers expect the Bengals to take a defensive back -- but that there is no consensus at all on which corner or safety is the best choice at 24.

Assuming that the Bengals' war room is on a similar wavelength (and it may or may not be) that in turn has to make the possibility of trading down a fairly large one. The team has done it before, after all. And of all the players listed, a great many will likely still be around early in the 2nd. For example, just looking at the offical Bengalszone mock, guys on the Big Board who are still around in the 2nd are:

Mangold

Kiwanuka

Hali

Simpson

Howard

Watson

Marshall

Youboty

McCargo (our pick in the 2nd per the official mock)

Bing (lasting to the 3rd)

Wright (day 2)

Trade down, grab another 3rd or 4th, sounding better and better...

I'm still of the mindset that if we truly want a TE on day one when we have the defensive needs we do, a trade down or a trade up into the third would be great.
