TDB's 1st Round Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

1.) Houston - Reggie Bush, RB, USC

The Texans will not pass on one of the most promising talents to ever enter the NFL Draft.

2.) New Orleans - Matt Leinart, QB, USC

The Saints steer clear of a mobile quarterback and take the player that could better flourish with solid weapons in the passing game.

3.) Tennessee - Vince Young, QB, Texas

After Norm Chow loses his chance at Leinart, the Titans take the other star option at quarterback.

4.) New York Jets - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia

After losing a shot at either of the two big quarterbacks, the Jets grab the best looking tackle in years to protect fragile Chad Pennington.

5.) Green Bay - Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon

After losing Grady Jackson to free agency, the Packers add a force to the defensive line to fill and improve the position.

6.) Oakland - A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State

The Raiders add a 250 pound speedster to their linebacking corps, one of the safests picks of the first round.

7.) San Francisco - Mario Willams, DE, North Carolina State

The 49ers add the best looking end in the draft to try and improve an anemic defensive front.

8.) Buffalo - Eric Winston, OT, Miami (Fl)

The Bills lose their shot at Ngata, and pursue an offensive lineman to help protect a struggling J.P. Losman.

9.) Detroit - Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt

The Lions take another offensive player with the first pick, this time a quarterback to replace much maligned Joey Harrington.

10.) Arizona - DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis

After a poor rookie season for J.J. Arrington, the Cardinals take a great looking prospect at running back to elevate their offense into the top eight.

11.) St. Louis - Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa

The Rams add a solid linebacking prospect in an effort to improve one of the worst defenses in the league.

12.) Cleveland - Matthias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College

The Browns begin immediate work on a near-league worst defensive line by adding an excellent pass rusher.

13.) Baltimore - Tamba Hali, DE, Penn State

The Ravens have no means of replacing Kyle Boller, so they improve the underachieving defensive line.

14.) Philadelphia - Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State

The Eagles release T.O. and replace him with the next man in a line of solid Buckeye receivers.

15.) Atlanta - Michael Huff, S, Texas

The Falcons are delighted to see this talent fall into their laps, and they jump on it.

16.) Miami - Winston Justice, OT, USC

The Dolphins forego defensive needs to improve upon a terrible pass protecting offensive line.

17.) Minnesota - Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota

The Vikings take the hometown boy to improve upon an anemic rushing attack.

18.) Dallas - Jimmy Williams, S, Virginia Tech

The Cowboys improve upon a secondary that gave up too many big plays last season.

19.) San Diego - Darnell Bing, S, USC

The Chargers add a force to the secondary to repair a vulnerable pass defense.

20.) Kansas City - Ashton Youboty, CB, Ohio State

After much of the desired defensive talent is off the board, the Chiefs take a chance on Youboty.

21.) New England - DeMeco Ryans, LB, Alabama

The Patriots fill a hole on defense with youth after all the injuries in 2005.

22.) Denver (from Washington) - Mercedes Lewis, TE, UCLA

The Broncos take this excellent offensive prospect after he falls this far.

23.) Tampa Bay - Claude Wroten, DT, LSU

After the Bucs run defense struggled down the stretch in 2005, they forego offensive needs for this tackle.

24.) Cincinnati - Ko Simpson, S, South Carolina

The Bengals are delighted to see this highly touted player fall to them, and pick him up to play beside Madieu Williams.

25.) New York Giants - Ernie Sims, LB, Florida State

The Giants shore up an already solid front seven with this final piece.

26.) Chicago - Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia

The Bears add a weapon to the offense to make things easier for young Rex Grossman.

27.) Carolina - Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland

The Panthers try and amend a bad corps of tight ends with this pick.

28.) Pittsburgh - Derek Hagen, WR, Arizona State

The Steelers make an effort to replace the deep threat capabilities of Plaxico Burress better than Cedrick Wilson has been able to.

29.) Jacksonville - LenDale White, RB, USC

Fred Taylor is starting to run out of gas, and the Jags make this pick to start grooming his replacement.

30.) Indianapolis - Thomas Howard, LB, UTEP

The Colts add depth to their front seven, as they struggled some to stop the run down the stretch.

31.) Denver - Chad Jackson, WR, Florida

The Broncos add another weapon on offense to give Jake Plummer another option as Rod Smith continues to age.

32.) Seattle - Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State

The Seahawks strengthen their line-backing corps with the best pass rushing backer in the draft.

There's one pick that I don't see happening. I think it might go more like this -

28.) Pittsburgh - LenDale White, RB, USC

The Steelers make an effort to replace the smash mouth running skills of Jerome Bettis better than Willie Parker has been able to.

Wouldn't that be just wonderful!

Ko Simpson would be a GREAT pickup....

Jacksonville won't take White, though. They are very high on Greg Jones, and I wouldn't be suprised to see him take over full time in the next year or two.

If the Steelers lose to Denver today, I expect Bettis to return next year (because of his fumble against the Colts). Either way, you're probably right.

His MJ "Charge" got dropped...who knows wjhy. I'm not looking for a chior boy...are you? Ko is damn good, I'm not arguing that.

SS is a big need but not as big as D-line...

FA can solve the SS position. When a rook SS gets burned it is for 6, plain and simple. When a rook DT gets burned there are 10 more guys to make the tackle...won't cost us 6. Who's kidding here?

I'll take Whitner in the 3rd over Ko in the first, if we can land a Wroten or Kiwanuka type guy.

right, S is not nearly as big a need as DT, after all the DTs go in XL category at >300. S only range in the 190s to 220s

:P

But in all seriousness, the Safety is a bigger need because it is the glue of the two aspects of defense, run and pass. If you have below average safeties both aspects are bound to be poor, or if the S can only do a good job in one or the other. WE DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE a quality safety to shore up the rotation! Herring and Williams are the starters and Herring is going to start to show his age soon. On the D-line we at least have a serviceable set of guys in a experienced rotation. Possibly Askew will have a fire under his A$$ in the offseason which will improve the depth and quality of the DL.

Always remember...

SAFETY FIRST!
