BengalsVision

Sadly no, the Bengals aren’t getting a Disney+ Marvel crossover series, just a couple puff pieces on the .com outlining the “vision” of Elizabeth Blackburn for the team. So who is (as she’s apparently known) “Burnie”?

Quote

I joined the Bengals after working in Management Consulting and Private Equity

Two professions that just scream “knows how to build a football team,” amirite? BUT to be fair she does already have a league-wide legacy:

Quote

Peter Ruocco could have told her that back in 2017.

That's when Ruocco, an NFL senior vice president for all things labor and salary cap, hosted her in a three-month internship while she was working at Bain. Blackburn also put in three months in Chris Halpin's fledgling strategy and development office, but it was the Management Council that named her program that she developed "The Burn System," after her.

Ruocco says Blackburn used her "extensive computer skills" to allow them to value every number or dollar amount related to collective bargaining with the push of a button.

"It will be used forever more, I think, in negotiations," Ruocco says. "She was invaluable and she did it with a smile on her face."

Writing computer programs to allow ownership to maximize value in player negotiations! A chip off ol’ Mike Brown block!

Anyhow, if you’re into pablum and corporate marketing speak, read on: https://www.bengals.com/news/chapter-2-the-vision-high-standards-connection-and-enduring-legacy

So, I am not mad about that? Sorry, I know this board loves to hate all things Brown family reflexively, so I will probably absent myself for awhile if that's where this goes. She seems sharp as hell, she actually grew up a genuine fan of the team, and tthe places she worked don't hire dummies, and she spent time in the league office salary cap division learning in the ins and outs. Maybe it was a coincedence but then last year the bengals finally joined the modern nfl and attacked FA with more fervor and more contract flexibility that usual. Thinking that maybe she had an impact on that.

Will bow out now, because I know the bashing will now start. But I feel a lot better about the team's potential future in Cincinnati after reading that than before. She seems really loyal to the city. That's...a REALLY good thing, no?

Money talks,  BS walks.   Liz has her work cut out for her.   There's some low hanging fruit that she is tackling it seems.   Which is good.

The Brown family always takes baby steps and it's gives off the feel of half ass effort.  Cincinnati is a small market that has always been overlooked.

I've had the fortune to travel to many away games.  Also a lot in Indy.  Also had season tickets to the Reds.

The Bengals fall way short.  There's just a lack of pride in Bengals from the franchise itself when compared to the Colts, Packers, Panthers, Ravens and Reds.

No. 1 its hard to change with out significant winning.  So good luck to Liz.  I thought recently introduced season ticket packages fell way short.  Half ass again.  It was good enough to get me to click on Bengals.com but not enough to consider rejoining that club.

Given the price of the NFL today the post Liz holds is probably best suited for high hospitality executive that knows how to drive brand loyalty.

The perks they are offering given the level of spend is flat.

Go sign up for a slot machine card and shove some money into it.  Then the next year you are getting a constant flow of offers.  Heck several kitchen appliances I cook with came from the casino.  Before COVID always had some buffet discounts and free play.

Bengals are giving 15% overpriced NFL gear or concession credits on crappy food/drink provided by Arramark.

Interesting to know. Since I’m not in town any more I don’t pay much attention to season ticket package details and the like. That it’s underwhelming doesn’t surprise me.

BTW if you want offers on kitchen appliances, buy something from Williams Sonoma online. Snail mail, email, texts, it never ends!

For better or worse, if you want to actually hear from the 4th generation , Elizabeth Blackburn was on the Dehner and Morrison pod that just dropped today. “Hear That Podcast Growlin’” if you don’t normally subscribe and are searching for it.

Thought it was a half ass vision to begin with BUT any momentum they might have gained had gone to 0!

With your history you can’t sit out day 1 of FA.   Sure they’ll sign someone (I hope).

But damage is done.  The people you need to turn are highly influenced with in small window.

They simply just don’t get it.

Soooooooo.......

I'm guessing/hoping they will eventually sign a guard.   Maybe 4-6mil?    This is why you don't blindly support some half ass vision.

With 1 simple overpay move or pay market value move in the first few hours of FA.  Sign Kevin Zeitler.    IF that happens then everything they do afterward is celebrated.  Wildly celebrated!

Would it kill the organization to overpay a tiny bit for a guy they once drafted?  A guy they valued at the 8/9m range 3 years ago?   Fuck no.

Instead everything they've done is viewed through a lens of not addressing the biggest need.   It erodes all confidence (if there was any) in this organization.

They don't get it.   They think naming sections of the stadium stolen from a college basketball team is going to carry the day.  They think cute social media posts is going to carry the day.

When you want to change a perception you have to do more.   All this negativity and they've been involved and signed some decent FAs for 2 years straight.   Perception remains.

Again.... the easiest move was to sign an obvious need in the first hours of FA.

KZ is obvious starter in this league and better than anything you had since he left.

Swallow the extra cost that only exist in your pre determined value chart and your entire FA period is viewed differently.

This is the stuff you’ll need to do until you produce indisputable on field results

Mike’s a condescending Dick.  In his mind fans just don’t understand.  To make moves to appease fans would be below him.  Surely we all recall his explanation about keeping Zac after two bad years.  Basically, “you fans wanted a new coach, so we got you one.  Enjoy him.”

the "BengalsVision" poster or image overlay should be of a quarterback wearing a blood and grass-stained jersey bearing the number 9, laying on his back with blood running from both nose and mouth, eyes rolled up into the back of his head, and his leg dangling at an odd and seemingly impossible angle

IMO, some good small  game experience things being emailed out today.  As a former season ticket holder that participated in multiple fan surveys; finally some the ideas mentioned by me are being implemented in some form.   So they are listening somewhat as these ideas were communicate a decade ago.

1. Some sort of Throne.  Good idea.  See how it is executed pre game but sounds like this will be  long the line of raising of "12" man flag in Seattle,   KC Chiefs war drum, Viking Horn etc.

2. Stripes Squad.  Good idea.  Reds did this years ago.   So basically a propaganda squad to infiltrate tailgate areas and other areas to spread the word of Paul Brown.   Which is what you want when you go to a game.   I would love for them to bring back the drum core they tried a few years back.

One cool thing that the Viking stadium has in it is a mural with every local highschool football helmet on it.  I believe they even took the time to put a gold helmet for the current state champions.

Ideas will come and go and probably a lot more fail that are successful.  Anything that will tap into a fan's inner pride is a good idea, IMO.   That's what this fan base that goes PBS needs.

I am still heartened by Katie Blackburn's ascendance. She gets it. Reminds me more of her great-grandfather than her grandfather.  Here is their latest push:

1 sounds kind of goofy to me but yeah, it will all be in the execution. 2 is definitely a good idea, you see this basically everywhere else.
