Reds vs. Phillies

The Reds start off a 4 game series at the Phillies tonight.

Leake, Bailey, Arroyo, and Cueto will be pitching for the Reds.

Philly is not a good home team, but have won their last 2 games.

The Hamels, Cueto matchup should be fun to watch.

We have a 6.5 game lead on the Pirates (playing the Padres) and a 8.5 lead on the Cards (night off before Astros).

GO REDS !!!

Yeah. Too bad the Cardinals get the day off and then have the luxury of facing the Astros in St. Louis. It would have been nice to see them suffer from a hangover due to that 19 inning loss - but the schedule really works in their favor in that regard.

Haliday has lost it, my Phillies have no bullpen to speak of, and there GM has ruined this team for now. They have way to much money tied up in starting piching, and a closer who rarely gets a chance to win games. The Philles expect there starters to pitch 8 innings every game, and they cant, but they deceided to never address the bullpen. They knew what was wrong with this team last year, and never fixed there problems. They should have payed Madsion to stay and close, instead of waisting 50 million dollars on a closer. Ok thanks for my Philles rant for the night, and there sucky GM :frustrated:

Leake has to find a way to be more consistent.

5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th and he gets blown up.

I got home in time to see Ondrusek give up another 2 runs. Nice.

Games like this happen from time to time and I can't say as i'm worried, but another chance to pick up a half game on a team is wasted. For those more concerned about the Cardinals, in the past 4 days, the Reds have lost a game to them in the standings on nights they didn't even play.

Oh well, come back strong tonight and set the tone for the coming series against the Cardinals.

No they didn't. 4 days ago the Reds had a 7 game lead over the Cardinals. Now it's an 8 game lead.

The Reds lost the 2nd game of Saturday's doubleheader and lost a half game.

The Reds lost last night and lost another half game.

Had they won when the Cards weren't playing, their lead would be 9 games.

Sure... but by that logic, if the Reds hadn't lost 49 games this season, they would have a 57 game lead on the Cardinals. You can't look at it like that.

The Cardinals didn't gain a game on the Reds in the actual standings over the last 4 days. In fact, the Reds are the ones who gained a game in the actual standings over the Cardinals.

The Reds went 3-2 in the last 4 days... but the Cardinals went 1-2. What the Cardinals did in the same timespan does matter. So even though the Reds managed to lose 2 games - they still grew their lead.

Would it have been nice to gain 2 games instead of 1? Sure... but the Reds didn't actually lose any ground this weekend.
