HoosierCat Posted September 19, 2011 Report Share Posted September 19, 2011 Just a data point, but IMO worth a note.Through 2 games (and just 6 quarters) Andy Dalton is 37 for 56 (66%) for 413 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 picks.In his first two starts (8 quarters) in 2004, Palmer was 39/65 (60%) for 395 yards, 2 TDs and 2 picks.So, so far, rookie Dalton > rookie Palmer. The eyes do too - it seems that Dalton is making decisions faster, going through his progressions faster. Very encouraging. And like 711 says, the difference in preparation makes it all the more incredible.The only mitigating differences I can think of are: 1) the Bengals' two opponents this far are atrocious, and 2) Thanks to the lockout, defenses are way behind offenses (witness crazy passing stats league-wide).But yeah, I think we might have a good deal on our hands. In fact, it has looked MUCH better than Palmer's velocity on the ball. I will not miss the floated out routes toward the sideline that go for 3 yards or a pick 6. Well i dont care ill Dalton some love for the way he played! Once Gruden decieded to take off the training wheels in the second half Dalton showed us that he does have an arm, and he can throw it down the field, when he has time to throw. Dalton's coming from TCU in the second round. Also, Newton's 400 yards per game is pretty impressive. I have heard the talking heads mention that Dalton's looked good when running through the Bengals' highlights.No doubt, though, if Dalton keeps it up, he will definitely get more attention. I mean, sh*t, the fact that Carson put up the numbers he did with a complete MORON of an Offensive Coordinator like Bratkowski is Amazing. Palmer alsoo didn't have the kind of weapons as a Rookie that Dalton has.
