My Draft Questions to You Guys or Gals

Recommended Posts

The best we can draft is 4th, say Oakland loses at Tampa who is fighting for the playoffs and Seattle loses at Arizona(but they might win, last game for Holmgren and Arizona has nothing to play for) the Browns also play the Squeelers who prob. will rest their players I would assume, so hopefully the Browns win but even the s**tzburghs backups will prob. beat the Clowns. So worst case scenario is 7th:

1. Lions-

2. Rams-

3. Chiefs-

4. Raiders-

5. Seahawks-

6. Browns-

7. Bengals-

If this happened, I'm assuming all the tackles will be gone, so where do we go, fill in players where u think they'll go. While I would love Andre Smith, he won't be there for us...So my selections are:

1. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma

2. Andre Smith, OL, Alabama

3. Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

4. Malcolm Jenkins, DB, Ohio State

5. Michael Oher, OL, Ole Miss

6. Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB, Ohio State

7. Rey Maualuga, LB, USC or Taylor Mays, S, USC

While Rey Rey would be awesome to team up with Keith Rivers, unless we draft Brandon Spikes in the second round which isn't gonna happen b/c it would be perfect and he's just too good to slip out of the first, Dhani Jones and serviceable and Taylor Mays is a beast, Mays with Chinny Duke Nukem would be instantly one of the toughest D's in the league.

I'd point out that the listings of "best available" draft picks is meaningless right now, with another game left and all those stupid stat gathering clipboard nerds getting off on a player's attributes before the draft.

I say that to reaffirm everyone's hope that the Bengals can pick up one of the higher noted tackles in the first round.

I don't know, Captain Kirk.....the guys at the top of the draft boards now, that can STAY on top after the bowl games, all-star games, and combine, are the gems in the draft. It's the guys without the regular season pedigree, that zoom up everybody's boards 'cause they run and / or lift well, that should have you exercise caution....you know, those guys that Al Davis and Matt Millen & idiot-Mikey like to select ('cause they don't scout during the regular season).

If we had a GM who actually selected players smartly

and

If there were no worthy OTs available at our pick

then

we'd go either OG, OC, or pass-rushing DE - I haven't reviewed the list of potential draftees yet but will take it as assumed that there will be a top-10 caliber player from one of those spots available when we draft.

However, with Mike Brown running our draft, we might take a injured long snapping specialist. Who knows.

R u kiddin me, a Guard or Center in the Top 7, u must be high b/c the best guard in the draft is Duke Robinson from Oklahoma and the best he can hope for is the 15-20...

There are 3 tackles in the consensus top half dozen or so players. The Bengals will get one of them. It is inconceivable that the first three players off the board will be tackles.

If they do the right thing, they will get their T.

No, I'm not kidding you.

Please read my entire statement, which includes the fact that I haven't reviewed the list of possible candidates.

All I am doing in essence is saying that our next three biggest needs after OT (which this thread makes offlimits by it's supposition) are OC, OG, and DE - not necessarily in that order.

So no - neither kidding nor medications involved

Perhaps, but Gator is right....there won't be prospects at OG or OC worthy of 1st round consideration unless the Bengals move down dramatically. Furthermore, any current list of 1st round prospects will have to be tweaked in the coming weeks to accomodate about a dozen or so underclassmen, most of whom will be skill position players....pushing most interior OL prospects even further down the board.

Nah, there are always players who rise out of all-star/bowl games and/or combine results and/or Pro Day results.

I also think that Branden Albert and Ryan Clady were not nearly so well rated initially, and each of their teams is quite happy with their choices

i agree that we definitely need to upgrade both our lines - O first, we need a big LT, and a C. picking up an OG might be a good idea as well. we also need a pass-rushing DE, so i'm hoping one of the big names will slide a bit.

so basically, we need a lot of good guys - hard to achieve in one draft, and especially if MB and ML are doing the drafting :)

So if Andre Smith from Bama and Oher from Ole Miss are gone b4 our pick, u want to reach for Eugene Monroe from Virginia? While I agree Monroe is a Top 12 prospect, I don't believe he is a Top 7 and don't agree to reach for him outta need, I would rather have Taylor Mays or Rey Rey and get a Tackle in the 2nd if available.

I would rather have Rey Rey

Maualuga? you really want to go LB in the first round when our lines are about as stout as the first piggie's hut?

He doesn't want the Oline ignored just postponed one pick,Good teams who have real assistant coaches can draft Oline from rounds 2-7 and still get probowlers vs paul alexander who can only coach up 1st and 2nd rounders...

Yep. Moreno and Stafford almost surely will come out, as will Crabtree. I would suspect that they will all be Top 10 picks. A lot of the draft boards that I am reading don't have Rey or Oher rated as top 10 prospects right now and Oher, specifically, is coming off a very inconsistent season. You can also count on a workout warrior (see Gholston last year) figuring to go somewhere in the top 10. With so many needs and none really a "must" need, I would like to see the Bengals trade down to somewhere in the 9-12 range and possibly pick up another 3rd or 4th round pick. I don't think Alex Mack makes since in the 1st 2 rounds, because at 314 pounds, he is very similar to the Eric G., with strength being a weakness.

Thank u Kazkal, I just don't want to reach for a tackle in the first b/c that's what we need especially if the worst case scenario were to happen and no tackles were there worth the pick, we do have Whitworth and Collins that can both ball.

1st of all, Crabtree already said he's staying at TexasTech, I don't know if he's a man of his word or not but right now u have to take him at his word. Stafford, if he comes out will prob. be a Top 5 if not Top 10 but I'm obviously a Gator fan but I don't think he's that great, he's got the talent, but his decision making isn't the best, so while I would love for him to leave as a Gator fan I don't think he's ready pro-wise. But I do agree with Knowshon, the dudes a beast, gonna be a great pro, if we can either trade up back in the first to get him or get him in the second I would do it even if its not our greatest need, but him and Ceddy Benson would be sick. I completely agree with u about the workout warrior, and it will prob. be Michael Johnson of Georgia Tech, book it.

I just think the odds of Oher AND Smith being gone in the top 3 are hella low. How many times in NFL draft history have Tackles gone 2 of the top 3? Even if they did, who knows where the other guy will grade out? I don't want a reach either, but I don't want this team thinking that it is somehow "fine" at line. And give them an inch, they will.

Detroit is likely going QB at #1 overall.

I suppose Rams and Chiefs could go T, but they have enough other needs, that it is more than likely one of those two will be there,

Dude... you're crazy. Eric Ghiaciuc isn't even in the same league as Alex Mack. Centers are traditionally smaller, and you aren't going to find great ones that are huge. Mack is the best Center to come into the draft since Mangold. Mack's has great lower body strength. He has the California program record power clean of 374 pounds. His lower body strength is the best in the draft. He's an incredible run blocker, and is an amazing finisher... which is exactly what the Bengals need in the AFC North.

If you want to talk about a weakness... it is his technique in pass blocking, as well as his ability to react to speed blitzers coming through the middle. Both of these are quite coachable, and certainly no worse than what Ghiaciuc brings to the table. And with his lower body strength being what it is, he won't get bull rushed play after play. If Mack is available for the Bengals in the 2nd round, you can bet I'll be throwing the remote at my TV if they pass on him.

If he's not available, I'd settle for Eric Wood later on in the draft... but he does need to work on his lower body strength, or else we'll continue to see the Center position being bullrushed into the QB.

I'd much rather go for Phil Loadholt from Oklahoma than Monroe. 350 lbs, with strength and quickness. Great pass blocker, good run blocker, and likes to get to the second level. He easily could end up being the best OT in this draft with no one I've heard even mentioning him yet. But I imagine his name will be mentioned as a top 10 guy by the time the draft gets here.

You're probably right... but if his stock rises much more, he'll be gone before the Bengals pick at 4, let alone 7. I'd love to see the dude in stripes. He'd be exactly what they need on defense. Finally, someone who can get to the QB, and wreak havoc in the backfield... but OT is so much more of a need right now with Levi Jones and Stacy Andrews. Whit should stay at LG. He's good there. A top 10 LT to sit next to him could do wonders for this offense.

Maybe... but he's still got the National Championship game to play. If he holds off the Gators pass rush, you can bank on his stock rising. I think he'll play a good game, and by the time the draft comes along, he will be a consensus top 10 pick. I've read that he could be the next Jonathon Ogden... and I agree.
