Buckeyes may be National Champs

They are currently #7

#2 Oregon lost, moving them up to #6

#4 Oklahoma is losing, moving them up to #5

#3 kansas and #4 Missouri play next week, one will lose moving OSU to #4

The winner of that game will play Oklahoma in the big 12 championship and they will most likely lose, moving OSU to #3

#6 West virginia has 2 tough match-ups in Cincy and Conn., they are currently beating UC but they could still lose to #24 UCONN. If WV doesn't lose, LSU has to play either Georgia or Tenn. in the SEC championship game and they could definately lose to either one of them teams.

LSU and West Virginia are going to be the toughest teams to be beat but it is possible. OSU still has a legitimate shot at the national championship. GO Bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unlikely. But possible. Whether we get in the NC or not, I won't be disapointed. It has been a great season. Remember at the beginning of the season when all the "experts" said that NEXT year was going to be Ohio State's year and that we were going to be really young and kind of in a rebuilding mode? How wrong they were. I can't wait until next year because we're getting essentially everyone back. I can't see us not being pre-season number one.

Actually, I don't think it's unlikely at all. I do however think we end up at #3 in the rankings. The scenario listed is good for the Buckeyes as they have no further games and can sit back and watch.

Mizzou or Kansas will go down in that game and I personally don't think either one can beat Oklahoma, so that will be interesting to watch.

I think West Virginia is the one I'm most concerned about in that scenario though. The Bearcats should have won that game, but UConn shouldn't be much harder for WV if they don't turn the ball over like they did against UC.

Anyway around, it's nice to know we have a definite Rose Bowl berth, another Big Ten title, and yet another defeat of Michigan !!!

Is Jim Tressel one of the best NCAA coaches or what ?? Rebuilding year you say ?? No problem !!!

WHODEY !!!

Let's not get too excited about beating Michigan. Beating Michigan this year isn't really much of a test. I've been disappointed in the conference overall this season.

any time we beat the team from up north is always always a good day. are you a buckeye fan, because i can't see a true buckeye fan ever saying something like that. as for the sec and big ten garb. i don't pay much attetion to that. it's like saying my dad can beat yours lol. this season has proved anybody can get beat. the other teams are starting to catch up with the powerhouses.

I agree, but it makes watching NCAA football that much better.

You have to admit with all the upsets, this has been one of the better years to do so. ^_^

We'll have to wait to see if there are any key early entries in the draft.

I don't care if Michigan is 0-10 it is still a great win, especially in Ann Arbor....

Do you think for one minute ANY Michigan fan would be like "Well, we beat Ohio State, but who cares because they aren't that good" ??

NOT A CHANCE IN HELL !!! Those words will also NEVER come out of my mouth... We could have the most dominating college team in NCAA history and play a Michigan team who was the worst and after we won 2345-3, I would be on top of my barstool screaming "HELL YEAH !!!" and be happy until we had to play them again the following year !!!

There is still a chance to play for the National Championship, but the good part about it is, we are still going to the Rose Bowl anyway around, so I'm not overly concerned...

WHODEY !!!

It is going to be really hard to root for OK against Mizzou in the Big 12 championship game next weekend, but that is what losing to ILL. has lead to.

I have a friend that is originally from WV and is a Mountineer fan, but has also become a Buckeye fan over the years he has lived in OH. He will be in hog heaven if the Buckeyes actually make it to the title game against WVU.

I'll be pulling hard for Missouri! They deserve a shot at the title after dismantling the Jay Hawks last night!

Besides, their tiger CircleMizzou.GIF is quite similar to ours! sports_nfl_bengals.png

Here's a pic for all my fellow Buckeye fans. I took this pic of dual Script Ohios during the Band's performance before, well, let's just forget which game I attended.

That allows two band members the honor of dotting the "I".

Missouri, WVU lead BCS standings

By RALPH D. RUSSO, AP College Football Writer

Sun Nov 25, 7:37 PM ET

NEW YORK - Missouri and West Virginia have one more step to take before bumping into each other in New Orleans.

The Tigers and Mountaineers hold the top two spots in the Bowl Championship Series standings released Sunday with a week left in a topsy-turvy regular season.

The Tigers play Oklahoma (10-2) in the Big 12 championship game at San Antonio on Saturday and the Mountaineers face rival Pittsburgh (4-7) at home. If both win, it'll be Missouri-West Virginia in a most unlikely BCS championship game Jan. 7 at the Superdome.

A month ago, neither team was even in the top five of the BCS standings, but a string of upsets have left Chase Daniel and the Tigers and Pat White and the Mountaineers in control of their own destinies.

"I've been telling the guys, the more you win, the more that's at stake," West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said Sunday in a conference call with reporters.

If either Missouri (11-1) or West Virginia (10-1) trip up next week, third-place Ohio State (11-1) is poised to take advantage and play in its second straight title game.

If the Tigers and Mountaineers both lose, the national title picture gets very murky.

Georgia was fourth in the standings, followed by Kansas (11-1). Neither will play in their conference title games, but both still have a shot to play for a national championship.

Georgia (10-2) could become the first team with two losses to play for a national title and several other two-loss teams could make a claim to be in the championship game if the top two lose for a second consecutive week.

Sixth-place Virginia Tech (10-2), seventh-place LSU (10-2), eighth-place Southern California (9-2) and ninth-place Oklahoma all have one last opportunity to surge up the BCS standings on Saturday.

Ohio State's regular season ended Nov. 17 with a victory over Michigan that made the Buckeyes the Big Ten champions. The week before, Ohio State was No. 1 in the country when it lost to Illinois at home and seemingly fell out of the title race.

At worst, the Buckeyes, who lost the national championship game 41-14 to Florida last season, will be in the Rose Bowl.

Hawaii moved up to 12th in the standings after beating Boise State 39-27 and winning the Western Athletic Conference, putting Colt Brennan and the Warriors in position to earn an automatic BCS bid.

The Warriors, the last remaining unbeaten team in the nation, finish the season at home against Washington and need to be in the top 12 when the final standings come out next Sunday.

Missouri was No. 1 in the Harris poll and West Virginia was No. 1 in the USA Today coaches' poll Sunday. Those polls make up a two-thirds of a team's BCS average. Missouri was first in the computer rankings with West Virginia second.

The Tigers' BCS average was .978 and the Mountaineers were at .971.

A Missouri-West Virginia final seemed to be a long shot when October ended. Both had a loss and were stuck behind a pile of teams in the BCS standings. On Oct. 28, West Virginia was seventh in the standings and Missouri was ninth.

Since then it's been a steady climb as the Tigers and Mountaineers have kept winning while the other contenders have tanked.

It started when Ohio State lost to Illinois on Nov. 10. A few days later, Oregon lost quarterback Dennis Dixon to an injury in the first quarter and the Ducks' national title hopes went with him in a loss at Arizona.

Two days later, Oklahoma lost its second game of the season at Texas Tech, leaving Missouri and Kansas as the Big 12's best hope for a national title.

At that point, it became apparent that the winner of the Missouri-Kansas game would go to the Big 12 title game with a chance to play for the national championship at stake.

The Tigers, who entered the season unranked, took care of their business, handing Kansas its first loss of the season, 36-28.

LSU also went down, losing in triple overtime 50-48 to Arkansas on Friday, and that opened up a spot for the Mountaineers.

West Virginia grabbed it emphatically with a 66-21 victory against Connecticut to clinch the Big East title and a BCS bid. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll, but lost in late September 21-13 at South Florida. White injured his thigh against the Bulls and didn't finish the game.

Neither West Virginia nor Missouri has ever won a national title.

I fully expect Oklahoma to beat Missouri in the Big XII title game and expect West Virginia to win as well. That being said, the Buckeyes would definitely be the ones to gain the trip to the National Championship game. Georgia is currently sitting in 4th and since they won't be playing in the SEC title game, they have no chance of jumping Ohio State and the same goes for Kansas sitting at 5th. No one else can jump the Buckeyes in the ratings.

HERE WE GO SOONERS, HERE WE GO !!!

WHODEY !!!

I just want to chime in as well, Michigan could lose to nothing but powderpuff highschool teams for every game of the season for the next hundred years and I'd still be screaming at the television when OH-IO kicks their rotten, foul-smelling, gold encrusted teeth down their throat. I would give up a months pay to have a recording of Hart in the locker room sobbing gently to himself about how he never beat tOSU.

Going to the Rose Bowl and maybe the National Championship in a "rebuilding" year? F**K I love my team!

I don't think Hart was "sobbing gently" as you allude to. I think he was bellowing uncontrollably next to his locker with his head resting on Chad Henne's shoulder, both dabbing thier eyes with a hankie. He was a loud mouth baby that needed to shut up!!!!
