If he can get to 260 that would be good for a DE. OK, First Lawson's playing weight was 230 lbs. He bulked up for the combine. His weight coming into college was 210 lbs, so he's already added 30 lbs of bulk. You can't expect him to add another 30 and be the same player, or stay healthy.Don't get me wrong, I'm high on Lawson as a 3-4 OLB, but he would be terrible as a DE. No way could he handle a 320 lb LT in the run game. He'd be a liability. I think he could possibly be Defensive ROY like a Merriman for a team like Miami, Cleveland, Dallas or Pittsburgh in the 3-4. At DE, he gets beaten up and abused in the run game, and aren't we tired of that bye now?For my money give me Kiwanuka or Hali as a DE. They can rush the passer and play the run. If he's losing weight like Hali did between the combine and his pro day, it's to show teams looking at him as a 3-4 OLB that he can. But I wouldn't mind Lawson as a 4-3 DE pass rushing specialist until he bulks up if his frame can handle it. That being said, I still like him as a pass rushing DE in a 4-3 and wouldn't mind him in the least. I do however, think he will be gone before we pick at #24. You 'd rather have "degenerative hip" Allen over a pass rushing DE ?? Well, I can see if his hip was good why, but I don't want to take any chances on Allen at all. BengalPappaw Posted April 27, 2006 Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 I asked the question about whether the Bengals to a local radio guy (who got his info froma Bengals insider) had checked out Allen's physical condition and was told not to worry -- the Bengals would NOT have him high on their list, if they had not checked out Allen.BTW -- that very well could be another "smoke" screen from the Bengals.Yes -- I'd rather have Cromartie or Allen, because, if healthy, IMO they have a better chance to contribute more to the Bengals than Lawson. It will be interesting to see who might fall to us Saturday.They have us selecting Cromartie ahead of Whitner,and Chad Greenway.I'm not sure I agree with that. I'd certainly take him over Greenway. Whitner maybe not, but that's a tough call. Either of them would be awesome to have in stripes. Allen has been failing physicals because of his ailment. Yeah, there's a risk of re-injury...
