  1. Bengals v Ravens (merged)

Yes, that is the point of a Bengals FAN forum. I am complete non-objective when it comes to the Bengals and I'd like to keep it that way. It's ok to be a homer. However, stupidity should not be a prerequisite to being a bengal fan. And that seems to be the case around here. Something to consider... The bengals' last two games hve been against the jets and patriots. They were dominated in both. The ravens' last two wins have come against, guess who... the jets and patriots...each game on the road, no less. All I heard leading up to this game was how the patriots weren't the same team and how the bengals should be favored. Pats had a weak defense, etc... Now some guy is trying to claim that the patriots are a much better team than the ravens right now, so we should win on sunday. Just make up your mind Whats your point? Hows this for your logic? We beat the Ravens the last two times we played them. From the games I saw, the Pats are better than the Ravens(Though the Pats D is not as good) - But that is a one week snapshot. Again the Ravens had several turnovers yesterday, received very favorable calls that lead directly to more points, first downs on 3rd and long. Totaled 280 yards for the game on 70 plays. Defense looked fast though, but we usually are able to handle that. So i assume you pick a loss? Surprising I think it obvious - We are all very impressed with your intelligence and are just jealous that we just cant meet your football talk expectations. Favorable calls? Seriously? They got penalty calls because the jets CBs couldn't cover baltimore's WRs without interferring. There is nothing "favorable" about that. Running into kicker was favorable..no question. TJ PI wasn't catchable. Actually TJ did just as much grabbing and pulling as the DB..on a couple plays he initiated the contact. The hold when Ravens were backed up to their one on 3rd down wasn't a penalty or extremely ticky tack. But we aren't hearing any Ravens fans say the refs are picking on them this week though. Ravens were very fortunate last night. Be it by dumb Jets penalties and questionable calls. You are in serious denial man. All those penalties were clear cut.

You're right Joe. The Last time we played the Ravens in Baltimore we couldn't do anything but win the game. Get your facts straight. It's just kind of silly to make a comment about thank goodness we play the ravens. Yeah, you mean the team that just kicked the jets ass on their home field, the team that many are predicting to make the superbowl, the team that destroyed the bengals twice at the end of last year. Thank goodness!
  5. Bengals v Ravens (merged)

You guys are serious homers. Last time we played the ravens at home, they shut us out for pretty much the final 3 quarters of the game. We couldn't do anything. And you think the ravens offense was bad, but that's because the jets D was so good. I don't expect the bengals D to give the same performance. Then, compare how the ravens shut down the jets compared to how the jets moved the ball at will against the bengals at the end of last year. Huge difference. I don't like our chances of being able to score next week. And I'm not sure how well the bengals will be able to stop baltimore's offense. Then again, i could be totally wrong. I mean, I actually predicted that the bengals defense would have no chance of stopping the Patriots' offense last week...Oh wait a minute...i was right about that...
  6. Still can't beat other AFC teams

True, it's a matter of record recently. But then the leap you make is that we haven't beaten AFC teams recently, therefore we can't beat AFC teams. And that is where we disagree. The future is not a slave to the past. Two football teams line up. Which division they play in? Means almost nothing to the outcome. So how to explain the recent rash of losses to AFC teams? Is it just a statistical anomaly? Yes, I believe that is exactly what it is. A statistical anomaly. We'll beat non-North AFC teams this year, I'd bet on it. Wow, you are being way too literal. I didn't mean to imply that it was a universal law of physics that they are incapable of doing it. Just like a team that is horrible on the road isn't INCAPABLE of winning on the road. I do believe it's more than a statistical anomaly though.
  7. Still can't beat other AFC teams

You want a reason? Come on man. It's not that difficult to figure out. It's because they aren't as good as most other AFC teams. And as for the difference between teams in the AFC North and the rest of the Conference, it's easy as well. Familiarity. That evens the playing field and allows us to have some success. I mean, look at the games within the division. All six games last year came down to the wire and could gave gone either way. We somehow puled them all out, and that sort of anomaly allowed us to sneak into the playoffs...whre we were matched up with teams that were better than us. And it showed. The argument that the Bengals in-division success last year was an anomaly is one I can buy, but your reasons why are a problem. You're ignoring half of the NFL. If familiarity is somehow what allows the Bengals to succeed against the division but not against the rest of the AFC, why are they 4-3-1 against the NFC since the start of the abysmal 2008 season? My reasoning is that NFC teams suck Bears, Lions, Redskins, etc We did beat the Packers. But that's my whole point. We do okay against NFC teams. We do ok against teams in our division. But we seem incapable og beating other AFC teams. I'm not providing any explanation. Just stating a fact. I'm not sure why people can't seem to accept it.

It was a pretty simple observation that allowed me to win a large sum of money because I knew the bengals had no chance to beat the jets last year in the playoffs. And the fact is, if the bengals don't start showing the ability to beat AFC teams, they won't be in the playoffs because they can't count on all their division games going their way again this year. Bottom line is, even after sweeping all their division games last season, they just snuck in, finishing one game out of third place.
  9. Still can't beat other AFC teams

Yeah, because your theory is all about the regular season, not the playoffs. Even if they had won a couple games against non-AFCN opponents in the playoffs, your theory would still stand, right? Even if they won a Super Bowl, you could still claim it was a fluke, right? You found a pet statistic that can't be falsified. Bravo. I'm just reporting a fact. If the Bengals had lost 14 of their last 15 games on the road, then you would probably agree that they seem to be incapable of winning on the road. Andif they suddenly started to win road games, I would simply assumed that they improved at playing on the road. That doesn't make sense to you?
  10. Still can't beat other AFC teams

ZZZZZ...AFC championship game....ZZZZ Tell me, Joe, if the Bengals had reached the AFC championship game last year and lost, this would have changed your theory how? You are asking me if the bengals beating other AFC teams in the playoffs would have changed my theory about the bengals not being able to beat other AFC teams???? Seriously? That's your question? Um, they didn't. That's kind of the point, isn't it? And it's not a theory that they haven't been able to beat AFC teams outside their division. It's a matter of record.
  11. Ex Post Facto: Bengals vs Patriots

Give me a break. Keep telling yourself that. Palmer throwing an INT on an out-pattern that gets returned for a TD is anything but a fluke. It's a pretty common occurrence. And the Patriots could have scored 70 points if they wanted to. We couldn't stop them at all. They scored whenever they needed to. We had no chance to win.
  12. Still can't beat other AFC teams

The Ravens advanced in the playoffs each of the last two years...including all the way to the AFC Championship Game, where they played...guess who...the STEELERS. Plus, the Steelers have advanced enough to win a couple Superbowls in recent years. The bengals haven't won a playoff game since...well...nobody can actually remember...
  13. Still can't beat other AFC teams

You don't think the ability to beat teams in your conference is significant? That's pretty much the only way to advance in the playoffs.
  14. I pointed it out last year that we are totally incapable of beating AFC teams outside of our own division. Going back to last year, we have lost 7 out of 8 games against AFC teams outside our division. The only win was a last second win against the lowly chiefs at home. Going back even further...In our last 14 games against AFC teams outside our division, the only two teams we have beaten are KC and Jacksonville
  15. Ex Post Facto: Bengals vs Patriots

Well, this game went almost exactly as expected. We could generate no pass rush...as expected. Brady had all day to sit back and compeletely pick apart the bengals defense...as expected. We couln't stop them at all...as expected. Hopefully all the bengal homers will stop complaining that the "experts" don't rate our defense ahead of defenses like Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and don't give us the respect we deserve by picking baltimore and/or pittsburgh to finish ahead of us. Carson Palmer continues to play like a rookie QB. He throws yet another INT returned for a TD...as expected. Continues to lock onto his receivers. The only thing I didn't expect was how bad our return game and coverage teams were on special teams. But Huber continues to suck...as expected. Another UNexpected result was the lack of penalties.
